Account & pen names
Pendraic ships one workspace per signed-up writer. The workspace owns your bookshelves, projects, series, worlds, and pen names. Most things you can do are workspace-scoped; a few are account-level.
Default author name
The byline that appears on covers and exports unless you override it with a pen name. Stored in workspaces.default_author_name. Free-text, you control suffixes, middle initials, etc.
Pen names
A pen name is a workspace-scoped identity you can attach to projects, series, or worlds. The byline resolver follows this fallback chain on every export:
- project.pen_name_id (most specific)
- series.pen_name_id (cascade from series)
- workspaces.default_author_name (real name fallback)
Pen names are managed from the Account → Pen names sub-tab. Each pen name carries a display name and an isPrimary flag (the default pen name when no override is picked). Attribution counts (how many projects / series / worlds carry each pen name) surface in the management UI so you know how active each identity is.
Tiers & quotas
Pendraic offers tier-based plans with quota limits on:
- Active project count (archived + trashed projects don't count toward your active limit).
- AI rate limits (per-day and per-burst, shared across the inline palette + Penny chat + custom prompts).
- Premium features (failover chain, MCP server access, managed AI wallet).
See /pricing for current tier details. Downgrading takes effect immediately on the next call; no token revocation needed.
AI access
Two ways to power the inline palette, Penny chat, and custom prompts:
- Bring your own key. Add a provider API key (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, xAI, or OpenRouter) on Account → AI Tools. Calls run on your account; the vendor bills you directly.
- Pendraic Managed AI. Top up a credit wallet on Account → Billing and skip the provider setup. Usage draws down the wallet as you write.
Pick either path, or switch between them per project. The inline palette and Penny chat unlock as soon as one is configured.
Affiliate program
Pendraic runs an affiliate program: enroll, get a code, earn a commission on referrals. Account → Affiliate. See Affiliate program.
