When should I use one of Pendraics templates and when should I start from scratch?
Beginner
Use a template when you're still figuring out the shape. The templates aren't locked-in tracks; they're scaffolds that show you how a typical book of this kind moves. You can rip out anything that doesn't fit. Start from scratch when you have a strong specific structural idea and the templates would just slow you down. Most beginners benefit from picking one and treating it as a starting point they'll modify by chapter five.
