Start with the worshipper, not the doctrine. What does a believer do when they wake up? What do they pray for? What do they fear? What's a sin? What's a sacred place? When you can answer those, the doctrine writes itself backward. Real religions feel real because they shape everyday behavior; invented ones feel hollow when they're only theological.
